Exercise #1 - Day 1
In this workshop we will explore and celebrate the diversity of sound and its meanings. We will examine the recording process as well as look at the history of field recording. Each participant will be given a sheet with a list of sounds they will need to collect in a .5km radius of the event. A time limit of 5–30min duration will determine the recording time. This will be enough time to sample material surfaces, objects found in the LOMAA space, or anything else found or vocalized in the environment. These field recordings and vocalizations will be used to construct a composition through a process of layering and multi-tracking. In addition participants are asked to investigate, silence, rests and duration as elements, which distinguish one sound from another.

Exercise #2 - Day 1 Editing your sound bites into manageable bits and logging them in your sound library spreadsheet.
Exercise #3 - Day 2 Manipulation of your sounds - create two compositions roughly 5 mins in duration. The first will be raw sounds with only overlapping or discrete sound bytes. The second composition will be manipulated sounds - use filters and eq effects to compose a collage around a theme. eg. fire, water, wind, traffic, wood, birds - come up with some ideas.
Exercise #4 - Swap a composition with someone else and give them instructions to develop a new work by collaborating.
